Businesses and individuals can make cash contributions to selected not for profit organizations and public health care establishments under the Kansas Community Service Program.  Organizations are awarded permission from the Kansas Department of Commerce to distribute an approved dollar amount in tax credits to contributors of their programs.

The credits are typically awarded for programs in the areas of family and youth services, health services and crime prevention.  According to the Kansas Department of Commerce, the awards are given annually to programs that are unique, one-time in nature, and that create a lasting value for the charitable organization and the community at large.

Businesses and individuals who contribute $250 or more to the approved programs are eligible to receive tax credits in the amount of 50% of the contributions made during the taxable year.  The contribution can be in the form of cash, professional or trade services, stocks and bonds, personal property or real estate.  Certain documentation is required and some restrictions apply.  Upon receipt of tax credits, contributors can reduce their Kansas tax liability by the amount of the tax credits.

The Kansas Community Service Tax Credit Act requires programs that claim $100,000 or more of tax credits to undergo a financial and compliance audit conducted in accordance with generally accepted auditing principles by an independent Certified Public Accountant that is licensed in the State of Kansas.  SS&C has extensive expertise in taxes and audits of not for profit organizations, dating back to the 1970s.  We are also experienced in tax credit audits.  This experience is extremely valuable in providing quality professional service.
